Turkey is one of the leanest meats, but you can get into trouble if you eat only dark meat cooked in tons of butter and smothered in gravy. Save calories and fat by cutting down your portion, choosing light meat or a light-dark mix, avoiding the skin and going light on the gravy.

Consider basting your turkey with fat-free chicken broth, wine or apple cider instead of butter or drippings.
